1. The Spreader Unit shall be designed to utilize a standard Truck Tilting Dump Box Body as the reservoir for materials to be spread.
2.The Spreader Unit shall be designed to be installed in the Dump Box and extend through a Central (Coal) Door in the Pivoting Tailgate. The Spreader Unit’s only attachment to the Body shall be by means of a single Pin through two pairs of Ears located near the bottom edge of the Tailgate.
3. The Spreader Unit shall be of a design such that the Dump Box can be emptied while the Spreader Unit remains installed in the Dump Box. During Dump Box emptying, Spreader Unit mounting shall be designed to raise Spreader Frame off floor of Dump Box at Tailgate to allow cleaning under Spreader Unit.
4. The Spreader Unit Mainframe Side Rails and Slider Bed shall be of ¼ inch thick carbon steel plate. Spreader Unit Mainframe cross section dimensions shall be 22 in. wide and 9 ½ in. max. high. Approximate overall length of the Spreader Unit shall be 11 ft. 0 in. with approximately 27 in. extending behind the Tailgate.
5. The Spreader Unit Conveyor Tailshaft Assembly shall be located at the end of the unit installed inside the Dump Box Body. The Tailshaft shall be 2 inch diam. stainless steel and shall be bolted into the Mainframe. Idler Sprockets shall be of cast iron and shall roll on the Tailshaft. Idler Sprocket Bushings shall be of a design and material which does not require lubrication. Access to Conveyor Chain Connecting Links shall be by removal of an Access Cover located to expose the Tailshaft Assembly. Access Cover shall be of 3/16 inch thick carbon steel plate.
6. The Spreader Unit Conveyor Drive Assembly shall be built on a separate Sliding Drive Frame designed to slide atop the Spreader Unit Mainframe Side Rails. The Sliding Drive Frame shall be of ¼ inch thick carbon steel plate. Sliding Drive Frame shall slide on 3/16 inch thick stainless steel plate rails welded to the Spreader Unit Mainframe Side Rails. The Conveyor Headshaft Bearings and Gearbox shall be mounted to the Sliding Drive Frame. Headshaft Bearings shall be Four-hole Ball Bearing Flange type. The Conveyor Headshaft shall be 2-inch diam. carbon steel secured into a heavy duty, cast iron, 50:1 ratio Worm-type Gearbox (Superior®). Gearbox shall be powered by a Hydraulic Motor (Char-Lynn®).
7. The Spreader Unit Conveyor Chain shall have two strands of heavy duty, carbon steel, Type 667X Pintle Chain. Pintle Chain Sideplates shall be .170 inches thick. Chain strands shall be connected by Flights of ⅜ inch x 1 ¼ inch carbon steel flat with upset ends welded top and bottom to every other chain link. Conveyor Chain materials and manufacture shall be made in the U.S.A.
8. The Spreader Unit Conveyor Chain Tension shall be adjustable by means of Grease (hydraulic) Cylinders located on either side of the Sliding Drive Frame. Grease Cylinder Body and Rod shall be machined from stainless steel. Grease Cylinders shall be designed to push Sliding Drive Frame along Conveyor Side Rails and away from Tailshaft end of Unit in order to tension Conveyor Chain. Working length of Conveyor Chain shall be adjustable 3 inches from 9 ft. 0 in.
9. The Spreader Unit shall be designed such that material to be spread is conveyed to the rear of the Dump Box, through the Tailgate Door, dropped between the Deflector Panels and onto a Spinner Disc. Deflector Panels shall be mounted to the Drive Frame. A Swivel Mechanism with a telescopic Spinner Arm Assembly shall be mounted to the Drive Frame. The Upper Spinner Arm Subassembly shall be of carbon steel and the Lower Spinner Arm Subassembly shall be entirely stainless steel. Height of Spinner Disc above pavement shall be adjustable by means of telescopic round tubes held in position by a Bolt secured through crossholes. For stowing when not in operation, the Spinner Arm Assembly shall swing 90 degrees clockwise or 110 degrees counter-clockwise from the spreading position. Spinner Arm Assembly shall latch at all three positions. Spinner Disc shall be a Finned Urethane Disc powered by a Hydraulic Motor (Char-Lynn®) independently of Conveyor Drive.
Dispersion by the Spinner Disc shall be controlled by adjustable Deflector Panels located below the Conveyor Discharge and above the Spinner Disc and by an adjustable Stainless Steel Spinner Skirt mounted to the Spinner Arm.
10. Spreader Unit (Conveyor and Spinner) Hydraulic Motors shall be furnished and installed with plugged No. 10 O-ring ports ready for piping by others.
11. Carbon steel components shall be abrasive blasted with copper slag media before receiving a zinc-rich epoxy primer followed by a polyester powder top coat. Coating shall be cured at 375 degrees F after substrate is up to said temperature.
